Susan’s Story| Finding Residual Income

Supermom1 We do love it when you share your inspiring stories of health, wealth and happiness.  Sue wrote to us recently about how she got out of the “work till you drop” trap and found a successful way to build a residual income and her inspirational text follows.

Network marketing makes so much more business sense than the expensive advertisement route.  It can also be one of the most successful routes to ‘residual income’ and it’s something Tony and I have been practicing ourselves.  We had mixed success and have been in a steep learning curve for the last three years.  Tony has become quite an expert on the pitfalls and benefits of various schemes, so if you want to know more, please contact him at tony@thelifedesignstudio.com and watch out for his next article which will help you not to fall into the same traps as we did.

So now, over to Sue …

“The shock of hitting 50 caused me to step back a bit and take stock of my life. Things weren’t great. I’d Susan_2 spent 20 plus years in a succession of marketing jobs that were OK and fairly well paid.  The downside was that they took up far too much of my precious time and the money would stop coming in just as soon as I stopped working.  I had no final salary pension (not unusual these days) and the prospect of relying on the State and the stock market to support me in retirement was terrifying.  Nor did I want to wait till I was 65 to free up more time to pursue the sports and leisure activities that I love.  That’s mainly tennis – I play for a large club in London and, occasionally, for the county.

“It was time to take action.  But what should I do?  I wasn’t prepared to take on the huge risks that are usually involved in starting a business, I didn’t want the hassle of employing people and I certainly wasn’t prepared to devote myself to a new business 24/7.  Yes, I could do some freelance marketing and writing, but that wouldn’t provide the long term income I wanted.

“Then, two months ago, a friend told me that one of our leading internet providers – a big brand - needed more business associates to promote its range of phone, broadband and TV products.  The timing was perfect, because the company was about to launch a very lucrative and flexible new income plan that would appeal to all kinds of people: entrepreneurs looking for serious six figure incomes; stay at home mums in need of an extra few hundred pounds a month; computer resellers and PC doctors wanting an extra revenue stream; even sports clubs, schools and associations which need to raise funds.

“It wasn’t a difficult decision to get going with this. I could spend as much or as little time on it as I wanted.  I could focus on gathering customers in exchange for attractive commissions plus a residual income (the important part!) based on a percentage of their monthly bills for as long as they remain customers.  Or I could take a broader approach and look for entrepreneurs, second income seekers and businesses who would love to take advantage of this opportunity too. That’s the most lucrative avenue to go down – and it’s fun, too. There is so much scope.

“Another factor was that by switching to this company’s services myself, I’m saving a fair bit each month.  Now, I’m no salesperson, but when you let people know they can save money each month on their broadband and phone bills with a company that most of them have heard of already through TV, radio and press advertising, they tend to sit up and take notice.

“It can be a tough decision to change direction, particularly when you’re not quite as young as you used to be.  But someone recently reminded me that life isn’t a rehearsal, you get only one shot at it.  This hit home.  So I decided to follow the advice of that other big brand, the sports clothing manufacturer, and “Just Do It”.

“Although it’s still early days, I’m now far more confident about what the future holds. I can see clearly how my income will build and I’m looking forward to building a huge network marketing business across the UK.  It’s a great “bolt-on” to the marketing work and writing that I do already. And most importantly, it gives me the time I need to play some tennis.  Wimbledon, here I come!"
