New Year’s Resolutions : Reflective Thoughts

Reflection[1] It’s gone midnight on January 4th.  I’ve just finished ploughing through the last few days’ received e-mails to ensure I’ve answered everyone’s good wishes or enquiries and whilst lounging here with my lap top I’ve had a flash of inspiration about the one New Year Resolution I shall make and keep every year without fail.

At this time of change and fresh starts and clean slates it’s really important to recognise what’s been sabotaging my efforts to make changes in my life up to now.  So my resolution is to reflect on the year gone by and look for patterns of behaviour that are automatic but which do not serve me.  I shall no doubt discover limiting beliefs ... they must be there or life would be hunky dory in every respect and it’s not.  There are improvements to be made and some of them have been waiting an awfully long time.  Why?  Because I’ve been holding myself back with excuses, fears and procrastination.

So, I, Bee Milbourn, resolve to reflect each year-end on the patterns of thought and action that have prevented me from being all I can be and I resolve to do whatever it takes to change those patterns for the better.

What about you?  What do you see when you look back over your year?  Are you doing the same old thing over and over again but expecting a different result?

I hope not ... but do think about it.

Best wishes
Bee

New Year’s Resolutions 2009 : Increasing your chance of Success

1501_fighting-bears[1] Yet another year on the turn, yet another set of New Year Resolutions to be broken.  Am I being pessimistic?  Well, that’s not my style at all but I do know that there is sound evidence that most people don’t carry out their pledges – well at least not for more than a few days.  So why is this?  How can I help you to be on the right side of the statistics heap?  After all, it’s not as if I’ve always kept my promises to myself ... but I have learned a lot in the process of breaking them about why that happens and I want to share it with you.  Let's do battle with our enemies and emerge victorious!

Chatter of the Mind Part 2

Attic[1] Have you spent some time sorting out that dusty attic in the mind and finding the clutter ready to decide what to do with it?

In my last blog about mind-chatter (here), I talked about how you need to notice you’ve got a problem before you can fix it.  There is no movement without action. Do you want to feel happier?  Have you sought out any unwanted negativity that’s lurking in amongst your more useful thoughts or found habits or behaviour or thinking that you now know are not serving you?

In that case, it’s time to dust away the cobwebs and take the next step:

Personal Development: Our gateway to Success

History_EarlNightingale1[1] STOP not doing what you know you should do!

Powerful ideas are at the very heart of success and the single most useful tool in my personal development is, without doubt, the CD player in my car.  My glove compartment is never without a CD set by Wayne Dyer, Brian Tracy or one of the stable of self development superstars.

My regular commutes have become the gateway to success, my car provides an honors university education and my trunk holds a whole library of titles by the mentors who influenced and helped shape our unique brand of therapy at The Life Design Studio.

We have always believed that thoughts and ideas are our most powerful possessions.  An idea or a different way of viewing our life can change the way we look, act and feel at the blink of an eye...

The Secret | A Recipe for Life

Chicken_soup1 If you have seen the ‘The Secret’ (and if you haven’t, I recommend you find out about it here) you will know that in 1992 Guru Jack Canfield was feeling poor.  He was making ends meet, quite nicely by some standards.  Up to that point he had been a high school teacher, a psychotherapist, a corporate trainer, and a success coach, but he hadn’t quite found the recipe for life that would propel him into the income super league that his grand sounding title of Chairman of the Board of The Foundation for Self-Esteem and advisor to the California Legislature tasked to Promote Self-Esteem and Personal and Social Responsibility really demanded. Great title but the job didn’t pay much. …

New Year’s Resolutions

Why make 'em if you know you'll break 'em?

Images10Someone said to me recently “Why bother when you know you’ll only break them anyway – that just leads to disappointment? “

Do you feel that way?  In that case your new year’s resolution is not a resolution but just some wishful thinking.

Reflections

Gods_painting_6I love this time of year.  Most of the hustle and bustle of Christmas is over; an old year ending and a new beginning just around the corner.

It’s a great time for reflection.  A time for re-enforcing the lessons learned in the year gone by so that the year ahead can be even better.

One way to use this reflective time is to separate your thoughts into the various areas of your life.  So you might reflect on your health for the year, your finances, your relationships – which you may wish to separate out into different categories such as family, friends, someone special.  Then there is education, personal growth, leisure, spiritual growth.  You choose what’s important to you in your life.

Also, do add in those areas that you want but haven’t got.  One of the areas I love to help my clients with is relationships, particularly ....
